Furthermore we are happy to share this Announcement of partial Scholarships for the Summer University of the Arts 2017. A scholarship, which covers half of the respective course fee (max. 200 EUR):

“Young Artists – those beginning their careers (up to one year after graduation) and advanced students (in their final semester) – can apply for partial scholarships for all courses at the Berlin Summer University of the Arts. The deadline for applications is April 30th, 2017. The granting of scholarships is governed by the following criteria. An application for a grant requires that one has already registered for the course in question via the online registration form and has entered the keyword “Art Scholarship 2017” in the comments section. Registrations submitted in combination with this keyword are granted a special provision regarding the withdrawal from a course: In the case that the applicant does not receive the scholarship the binding registration can be cancelled without incurring an additional fee.

Please send your application for a partial scholarship with a detailed artistic CV, letter of motivation, record of study (and degree, if applicable), as well as an explanation of individual need (e.g. qualification for social welfare, BaföG, or unemployment benefits; international applicants should send respective proof of comparable qualification) via e-mail to summercourses@udk-berlin.de or to the following address by April 30th, 2017:

Universität der Künste Berlin
Berlin Career College
Summer University of the Arts
Subject: Art Scholarship
PF 12 05 44
10595 Berlin

Selection Criteria:

  1. The artistic qualification of the applicant will be evaluated on the basis of their artistic CV, letter of motivation, record of study (and degree, if applicable) by a selection committee. The committee is comprised of representatives from the departments of the Berlin University of the Arts as well as from the body for disabled students, the women’s representative and the respective course instructors.
  1. Status of the applicant (up to one year after graduation or in the final university semester).
  1. The applicant’s level of need (e.g. social welfare, BaföG, unemployment assessment; see paragraph above) will also be considered. Financial need is, however, not a requirement for selection.
  1. The final selection regarding the granting of scholarships will be made by the President of Berlin University of the Arts.

The decision regarding the granting of scholarships will be documented and announced during the month of May 2017. The applicants will then receive an email informing them as to whether they have been awarded a scholarship as well as information regarding the allocated funds. Applicants who do not receive a scholarship have the right to cancel their registration for the course(s) in question for up to 10 days after receiving the decision notice. The formal withdrawal from a course must be submitted in writing. If the applicants do not respond within this time period their registration(s) will remain valid and they will receive an invoice for the full course fee(s) or, in the case that a partial scholarship is awarded, the remainder of the relevant course fee(s). All other respects are subject to the provisions of the general terms and conditions of the Berlin Summer University of the Arts.

A scholarship allows the participation in one of the courses at a discounted price provided that the course indeed takes place (a minimum number of participants must, for instance, have registered). The scholarship can only be used towards the reduction of the participation cost(s) of the desired course. A payout of the funds or the use of the funds for another purpose is not possible.“
